Comforting Children

Sunday, March 24th, 2013

3-24-13I have added a new feature to my rides as I visit cities on The Kindness Bicycle. Most larger cities have children’s hospitals. People working at these hospitals are some of the most caring individuals you can find. Often times they aren’t thanked for their amazing work…they will be now.
Today I paid a visit to Phoenix Children’s Hospital and made myself very visible. It certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Greater Purpose Project

Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

Former TV anchor and reporter, Lauren Burgoyne saw The Kindness Bicycle in Scottsdale while I was taking one of my breaks. She and her business partner, Rick “Hollywood” Cochran are filming a documentary about people who are trying to make a difference in the world, she figured my mission fit the bill. They followed me to locations in Scottsdale and then down to the Arizona State campus in Tempe. Individuals in the very first two groups of people who walked up to me on campus had met me in other parts of the country…amazing how this mission is spreading.
Their documentary called the Greater Purpose Project can be found on Facebook.

3-22-13This campus was filled with students doing kind acts for others, every turn of my ride. My first stop on this campus this day was to a Bike-A-Thon to benefit Push America, an organization to help those with disabilities. The guys from Pi Kappa Phi and the girls from Alpha Phi were pedaling for hours on end to raise money for this charity.www.pushamerica.org
Caroline, who loves getting kids involved in science and Ana, who is interested in global issues, had a table set up on campus to raise awareness for others to get involved in service work. I also talked with Victoria who helps others through music therapy with her violin.
Adrian, a psychology major with an interest for helping children, wanted to know all the details of my ride to raise awareness about Bullying and Adolescent Suicide. Her Professor, Arthur Glenburg even gave his “smile of approval” as he saw us talking by The Kindness Bicycle. Awareness is needed on campuses across the country.

“Spring into Kindness Day” Wrapup

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

3-21-13A fun filled day of kindness for everyone! “Spring into Kindness” day is simple to celebrate, just surprise someone, who wouldn’t be expecting it, with an act of kindness.
From the east coast to the west coast of the United States, people from across the county took part. Hope Chase, who encouraged me to help her get this off the ground last year, had a group promoting the day on the Santa Monica pier. She had a vey big interest from children as they passed by her booth filled with Kindness Certificates and carnations. Next year she is going to spread this celebration around the globe. Go ahead, “Spring into Kindness!”

School Days

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Today was the first day of school after spring break in Scottsdale. It is always nice to get back into schools to talk to Counselors and Principals, even though most students probably disagree with wanting to be back after a week away.
There is a unanimous interest in the Ring Our Country with Kindness (ROCK) ride. Educators keep a very close watch over students from bullying  during the school day. It needs to be monitored by parents with the same interest.
